SUKUMA TWENDE TRUST
Arboretum Walk
The Nairobi Arboretum is one of the city’s oldest parks, hosting over 350 species of indigenous and exotic plants, and home to many species of birds. The park has been dear to the hearts of many of our Sukuma members, who have fond childhood memories of climbing trees and enjoying Sunday picnics in this beautiful forested reserve of the city. Hence, a project to restore the glory of this beautiful haven was just what we needed to support the Friends of Nairobi Arboretum and Kenya Forest Service who manage the park.
Sukuma Twende Trust organised a charity walk in November 2017 to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Waviye walking path. The fun walk attracted many participants who started from the Oshwal Community Centre in Westlands and trekked the streets of Nairobi to finish at the Arboretum.
The official opening of the Waviye walking path around the park was carried out on 21st January 2018, coinciding with tree planting and a cleanup exercise carried out by Sukuma members.
