In September 2014, the Amani Gardens Memorial site was officially opened at Karura Forest to commemorate the tragedy of the Westgate attack. 

The Sukuma Twende Group remembered Mitul, a founding member of the group, as they organised a memorial service, together with Kenya Red Cross and East FM. The group also organised a charity walk which coincided with the unveiling of the plaque at the memorial site, where trees were planted in memory of all those who lost their lives in the tragedy
