BRIDGING THE LITERACY GAP WITH LIBRARIES
As you are aware, education has time and again been acknowledged as the saving grace for the less fortunate. Our vision 2030 and the global agenda for sustainable development rely on a vibrant and creative workforce that is equipped with skills and the right attitude to drive the global goals for a sustainable world. Access to quality education plays a critical role in nurturing the right minds to drive our development agenda and supporting innovative individuals with the ability to support themselves as they contribute to the country’s economy.
We have thus partnered with @startalibaray in their Legacy Libraries project; to support public primary schools to improve their literacy levels and interaction with the language of instruction, in an effort to enhance quality education. The project seeks to do this by partnering with philanthropists to establish legacy libraries as a way of attaching value to the practice of reading. When people with influence associate their success with reading, then children will begin to value it, and parents and teachers will inculcate the culture in school and at home.
Our goal is to establish 00 libraries by September 8th, 2021 during International Literacy Day, to lay emphasis on the role of reading storybooks in improving literacy, and to reclaim the lost glory and significance of school libraries in nurturing holistic individuals.
As Dr. Seuss said, “The more you read, the more you will know, and the more you learn the more places you will go.”
Please join us in this short and intense race by donating KES. 250,000 to support one school. This will cater for: stocking the school library with 1,000 books, library management training for the respective language teachers (English and Kiswahili), monitoring and evaluation to ensure the library is used effectively, and establishing a sustainable model for continuity. Your support will help us reach over 100,000 children by the end of 2021, and thousands more in the long run. We hope that these libraries will serve as models that will be replicated across the country until every primary school has a library.
We hope you will say yes!
